Many Moon photos are actually color images! Unfortunately, unlike the planets, the Moon's surface has no brightly colored areas. Most of its color is a mix of dark browns, grays, or black.
The trick for color: Bump Saturation To reveal the colors of the moon you just have to bump the saturation when you process the photos. A massive bump in saturation quickly degrades the image quality so it's better to do it in steps. Increase saturation 20%, flatten the image, increase another 20%, flatten the image.

grey The powdery grey dirt is formed by micrometeorite impacts which pulverize local rocks into fine particles. The energy from these collisions melts the dirt into vapor that cools and condenses on soil particles, coating them in a glassy shell. These particles can wreak havoc on space suits and other equipment.
The lava – dark in colour because of its high concentration of iron – was slowly pulled by the Moon's weak gravity into valleys, exposing dark craters and white "lunar highlands". This is why the Moon is white and black, said Dr Stephan Klemme, the lead researcher.
